Overdue payment

A UK client questions my €2,000 invoice.

Client: "This invoice says €2,000, but we agreed on $2,000."

Me: "Actually, we agreed on €2,000. I'm based in Europe, and all my quotes are in euros."

Client: "But I'm paying in pounds."

Me: "That's fine, €2,000 converts to about £1,700."

Client: "No, I want to pay £2,000."

Me: "That would be €2,350, which is more than we agreed."

Client: "I don't understand. Money is money."

Me: "Different currencies have different values. €2,000 equals £1,700."

Client: "That doesn't make sense. Two thousand is two thousand."

Me: "Would you pay $2,000 or ¥2,000 for the same project?"

Client: "Well, obviously dollars and yen are different."

Me: "So are euros and pounds."

Client: "But they're both European money."

Me: "The UK isn't in the eurozone."

Client: "Since when?"
